  Schedule Information
Ship: Atlantic Explorer Schedule Status: Final Schedule ID: 11219
Schedule Year: 2012 Schedule Name: 2012 Atlantic Explorer Schedule
Notes: Note#1: Due to the time of high tide and our operational restriction of being able to transit Ferry Reach Channel to and from BIOS only at high water, we attempt to provide departures at 0800 hrs from St. George's Harbor on days where the time of high water occurs after 1100 hrs, and arrivals at 1700 hrs into St George's Harbor when the time of high water occurs before 1400 hrs. This requires transits between the BIOS dock in Ferry Reach, and Pennos Wharf in St George's Harbor, on days before and after cruises. We CANNOT guarantee these re-position transits for every cruise because the dock in St. George's is not always available, as commercial shipping and other vessels paying for dockage have priority. These moves negatively impact mobilization and de-mobilization logistics, and so may also not be possible due to cruise scheduling or logistic requirements. 24 hrs of at-sea time ARE NOT possible on departure and arrival days. Be sure to plan accordingly when preparing grant requests and making ship time requests.
Note#2: The vessel will be at shipyard from 01-21 January, with a return to Bermuda on or about 24 January.

Three additional days were awarded to facilitate the Curry mooring recovery 03-06 Nov. This cruise met the R/V Knorr with Jason aboard offshore. Jason released the mooring and AE made the recovery.

Nov OFP cruise departed 23Nov as scheduled, but returned to St. Georges due to heavy sea conditions. Vessel laid over at St George's for two days and resumed cruise on 26 Nov, then returned to BIOS on 29 Nov.

Hydro cruise delayed by one day due to WX delay experienced by OFP cruise. Departed 29 Nov and returned 30 Nov.

Repeating Cruise: Yes Dates To Avoid:
Number of Repeating Cruises: 4 Repeating Interval: 3 months
Repeating Cruise Comments: The project consists of six cruises over 18 months (one every three months). Cruises ideally need to be scheduled closely after the sediment traps have run their three-month programs.
Justification/Comments: Co-PIs on this proposal (Cindy Lee, J. Kirk Cochran, and Rob Armstrong) have deployed these particular traps with the Endeavor before, and felt this ship is ideal for our purposes. A larger ship (such as the Knorr) is overkill for our operations, while a smaller ship (such as the Cape Hatteras) is probably not large enough for our needs.

5 days of time on site should be sufficient for trap recovery and deployment, water pumping, and coring.

  Start Port: St. George's, Bermuda
  End Port: St. George's, Bermuda
Requested Start Port: Narragansett, RI, USA
Intermediate Port(s): None
Requested End Port: Narragansett, RI, USA
Port Comments: Narragansett is the Endeavor's home port, and is conveniently close to the PI's institution (Stony Brook University, NY) for loading and travel purposes. It is also one of the closest ports to the mooring site, thus reducing transit time. Alternatively, Bermuda could be used as a port.

Cruise Notes: AE will move to St George's on 5 May to spool new cable on the hydrowinch. R/V Knorr is transporting the new cable and spooler to BDA, arriving on the 4th. D Black cruise material from his container will be loaded at BIOS prior to the move over to St. George's. The Black cruise will complete mobilization in St. George's and depart from there 0800 on the 6th.
