optimal weather window is summer, but several co-PIs have another cruise in Fall 2013, so would be much better to start this expedition near front end of the weather window. Thanks. |

Justification/Comments: |
We request global class ship with ROV Jason. We could work with Alvin, have done well with the submersible in past years, but Jason is a better fit for our operations for several reasons, including bottom time efficiency for what amount to engineering operations (24-36 hour dives work best), close proximity of all work sites (so ROV transits are minimized), ability to get input from multiple researchers and pilots during operations and visual inspection of CORKs, ability to launch/recover multiple elevators during a single dive, and planned use of Jason with similar systems Fall 2013 on a separate program (can verify functionality of systems with Jason, make modifications if needed). We are checking both Alvin and Jason boxes below, but do prefer Jason. Thanks. |
