Ship Time Request Overview

STR Management has moved to MFP

The US Academic Research Fleet is moving to Marine Facilities Planning (MFP) for scheduling initially and eventually cruise planning.

For all NEW or RESUBMITTED Projects/Ship Time Requests, go to https://mfp.us and create a new SME. Some STRs for projects starting in 2022 and beyond have already been moved to Marine Facilities Planning (mfp.us). Check your MFP Science Portal for any projects that might already be moved. If you need to make edits to projects that begin in 2022 and beyond, please contact mfp@unols.org for assistance. Be sure to indicate the Project and STR IDs that you would like to edit. For more information on getting into MFP, see the More Information button below.

Project Description and Facility Requirements

Summary of Field Work: The major objective of this proposal is to set up
long (6--10 m) vibrocoring capability on the Endeavor to compliment the
shallow water (continental shelf depths) geophysical survey (simultaneous swath bathymetry, side--scan sonar, and subbottom sonar)
that King and collaborators have previously installed on the Endeavor.
Having this coring tool available to do ground--truth studies of
subbottom profiles will allow scientists to attack a range of problems on
the continental shelf.

Two general scientific objectives that are currently supported by grants
from BOEM are proposed for this cruise. They are: (1) to obtain a suite
of cores from the "Mud Hole" that will be utilized for a Holocene/Late
Glacial paleoenvironmental reconstruction of an area that may have
been inhabited by the ancestors of the Narragansett Tribe prior to sea level rise; and (2) identify, characterize, and inventory offshore sand
deposits that may be needed for future beach replenishment projects
along the south coast of RI.
Summary of Facility Requirements: We plan to use a Rossfelder P-3 vibrocorer and a subbottom sonar system that PI King owns.
Summary of other requirements or comments: none.
