Ship Time Request Overview

STR Management has moved to MFP

The US Academic Research Fleet is moving to Marine Facilities Planning (MFP) for scheduling initially and eventually cruise planning.

For all NEW or RESUBMITTED Projects/Ship Time Requests, go to https://mfp.us and create a new SME. Some STRs for projects starting in 2022 and beyond have already been moved to Marine Facilities Planning (mfp.us). Check your MFP Science Portal for any projects that might already be moved. If you need to make edits to projects that begin in 2022 and beyond, please contact mfp@unols.org for assistance. Be sure to indicate the Project and STR IDs that you would like to edit. For more information on getting into MFP, see the More Information button below.

Project Description and Facility Requirements
Project Web Page:
Summary of Field Work: Development and testing of autonomous system capable of making water column measurements (e.g., CTD) and taking water samples (e.g., modified Niskin bottles, high-pressure samplers) at depth from 0 to 11 km.

Initial field testing of the autonomous system will occur as part of the Rhode Island Endeavor Program aboard the R/V Endeavor. Final field testing will occur in a ocean trench. For planning purposes we propose the Puerto Rico trench and the R/V Armstrong.
Summary of Facility Requirements: For both the initial and final field tests, we will need a vessel with a deck crane capable of launching and recovering the autonomous profiler.

For the final field test, we will need a vessel with a full-ocean swathmapping system to locate a landing sites with appropriate depths and bottom type.
