Ship Time Request Overview

STR Management has moved to MFP

The US Academic Research Fleet is moving to Marine Facilities Planning (MFP) for scheduling initially and eventually cruise planning.

For all NEW or RESUBMITTED Projects/Ship Time Requests, go to https://mfp.us and create a new SME. Some STRs for projects starting in 2022 and beyond have already been moved to Marine Facilities Planning (mfp.us). Check your MFP Science Portal for any projects that might already be moved. If you need to make edits to projects that begin in 2022 and beyond, please contact mfp@unols.org for assistance. Be sure to indicate the Project and STR IDs that you would like to edit. For more information on getting into MFP, see the More Information button below.

Project Description and Facility Requirements
Project Web Page: http://uop.whoi.edu/projects/NTAS/ntas.html, http://jimo.ucsd.edu/research/projects/current/A_theme/move.htm
Summary of Field Work: The work will be focused on a surface mooring turn (recovery and re-deployment) and acoustic data transfer from subsurface platforms (moorings and inverted echo sounders (PIES)). One surface mooring will be turned at the NTAS site. Three subsurface moorings and multiple PIES will be visited at three MOVE sites. Deployment and recovery of PIES may take place at one or more MOVE sites. CTD casts ranging from 500 m to full ocean depth (5000 m) will take place at multiple sites.
Summary of Facility Requirements: The science party will supply equipment for mooring deployment and recovery (winches, air tuggers, winding carts, etc). Use of the URI TSE winch vs. a science party winch will be discussed. We will need all available deck space on the main deck and 01 deck for mooring equipment. We will use the A-Frame and the ship's large crane. Use of the HIAB crane will be discussed. We will use the ship's CTD sensors, deck box, rosette frame, and niskin bottles. Small boat operations will be considered at the discretion of the bridge. The ship's underway sensors (Met, TSal, ADCP, etc) will be utilized by the science party. Ability to "patch in" to the ship's 12 kHz transducer for science party acoustic comms will be requested.
Summary of other requirements or comments: Clearance will be required, and pursued by the science party, for operations offshore of Guadaloupe. The responsibility for other clearance needs, depending on ports, will be discussed with URI Marine Operations.
