Ship Time Request Overview

STR Management has moved to MFP

The US Academic Research Fleet is moving to Marine Facilities Planning (MFP) for scheduling initially and eventually cruise planning.

For all NEW or RESUBMITTED Projects/Ship Time Requests, go to and create a new SME. Some STRs for projects starting in 2022 and beyond have already been moved to Marine Facilities Planning ( Check your MFP Science Portal for any projects that might already be moved. If you need to make edits to projects that begin in 2022 and beyond, please contact for assistance. Be sure to indicate the Project and STR IDs that you would like to edit. For more information on getting into MFP, see the More Information button below.

Summary of Field Work: At 12 sites in the Gulf of Maine: collection of sediment multi-cores, CTD/water column sampling, MOCNESS plankton tows. May aim to collect one gravity core in Jordan Basin (site #8) if radiocarbon dating reveals a temporal gap between existing multi and piston cores at that location (WHOI core repository).
Summary of Facility Requirements: Multi-corer, hydrocast (Niskin rosette, CTD), MOCNESS, appropriate winch/wire for all of the above. Possible gravity corer.
