Ship Request

STR Management has moved to MFP

The US Academic Research Fleet is moving to Marine Facilities Planning (MFP) for scheduling initially and eventually cruise planning.

For all NEW or RESUBMITTED Projects/Ship Time Requests, go to https://mfp.us and create a new SME. Some STRs for projects starting in 2022 and beyond have already been moved to Marine Facilities Planning (mfp.us). Check your MFP Science Portal for any projects that might already be moved. If you need to make edits to projects that begin in 2022 and beyond, please contact mfp@unols.org for assistance. Be sure to indicate the Project and STR IDs that you would like to edit. For more information on getting into MFP, see the More Information button below.

  G2P in VoMs  -  2020  -  Kilo Moana
  Project Information
Project Title: RII Track-2 FEC: G2P in VOM: An experimental and analytical framework for genome to phenome connections in viruses of microbes Project Status: Submitted
Principal Investigator: K. Eric Wommack, UDEL Project Institution: UDEL
Project ID: 105666 Version #: 1
Date Submitted: 2/8/2017 10:47:00 PM Created By: K. Eric Wommack
Date Last Modified: 7/26/2017 4:36:00 PM URI Serial #: None
Funding Agencies: NSF/GEO - 1736030-EPSCorR - Funded
Summary of Field Work: Examining connections between the phenomic and genomic characteristics of viruses. The work will consist of water column sampling of the N. Pacific sub-tropical gyre using a standard CTD rosette instrumentation package and Niskin bottles. Samples will be processed on board and then snap frozen for subsequent shoreside molecular genetic analyses of virio- and bacterioplankton communities. We will also conduct three day deck incubations in ambient flowing seawater incubation troughs.
Summary of Facility Requirements: e will need a CTD/rosette, ADCP, sufficient
deck space and flowing seawater incubation troughs for incubation
experiments, a zodiac for shoreside logistical operations.

Repeating Cruise?
(within same year)
No Interval:   # of Cruises:

Description of Repeating cruise requirements: Repeated cruise intervals are not required
Justification/Explanation for ship choice, dates,
conflicts, number of days & multi-ship operations:
For several reasons, the Kilo Moana is the ideal
choice for this work. 1) The Moana routinely works in these waters. 2) The ship is an ideal size for the scientific party and has ample wet and dry lab space. 3) A member of our collaborative team is located at the University of Hawaii which eases the logistical burden of mobilization and demobilization.
