Summary of Field Work: |
Characterizing relationship of diatom flux from water column with nutrients in the euphotic zone. We will be combining measurements of nutrient and trace element concentrations, rates of biological nutrient uptake and community level diversity and gene expression.
Sampling will be done in conjunction with the NASA EXPORTS Process ship and follow their sampling plan. Our proposed research incorporates trace metal clean sampling of the lit water column and collection of large volumes of water for deckboard incubation experiments using an investigator-supplied tow fish. Our measurements will require access to a van for work with radioactive isotopes. We also request access to a trace metal clean rosette and van if available. |
Summary of Facility Requirements: |
We will need a conventional CTD, a trace metal clean CTD, a portable winch for an investigator supplied tow fish, block and line. We also request a trace metal clean van for sampling the fish and trace metal CTD. We are requesting the GEOTRACES van.
We will need access to a van for radioactive work.
We will need space on deck for incubators and sea water on the fan tail for incubators, and interior lab space for sample processing and potentially for a trace metal clean HEPA bubbled. |
