Ship Time Request Overview

STR Management has moved to MFP

The US Academic Research Fleet is moving to Marine Facilities Planning (MFP) for scheduling initially and eventually cruise planning.

For all NEW or RESUBMITTED Projects/Ship Time Requests, go to https://mfp.us and create a new SME. Some STRs for projects starting in 2022 and beyond have already been moved to Marine Facilities Planning (mfp.us). Check your MFP Science Portal for any projects that might already be moved. If you need to make edits to projects that begin in 2022 and beyond, please contact mfp@unols.org for assistance. Be sure to indicate the Project and STR IDs that you would like to edit. For more information on getting into MFP, see the More Information button below.

Project Description and Facility Requirements
Project Web Page:
Summary of Field Work: The field work involves performing an experiment of approximately 17 days to 1) test methods to extract information from measurements of the ocean ambient noise field, 2) test a probabilistic sonar prediction methodology. The experiments will include acoustic propagation measurements as well as relevant oceanographic measurements that will be used to assess the probabilistic sonar predictions. Glider systems with acoustic sensors will be deployed and
ocean and seabed measurements will be simultaneously collected.
Summary of Facility Requirements: We will need an A-frame to deploy a sound source, a crane to deploy and recover glider systems, a CTD measurement capability and sufficient deck space for glider deployments and for source amplifiers.
Summary of other requirements or comments: Will need to be able to operate in moderately rough weather (e.g., sea-state 3).
