Description of Repeating cruise requirements: |
This request is for the first of the two cruises with Worcester as Chief Scientist. On this cruise, Worcester will install acoustic source and receiver moorings, prior to related cruises by Mercer and Baggeroer. Approximately one year later (2011), Worcester will recover the moorings. |
Justification/Explanation for ship choice, dates,
conflicts, number of days & multi-ship operations: |
Either the Revelle or the Melville would be adequate for Worcester's mooring deployments and recoveries, although the Revelle is preferred because of its larger deck space. Weather considerations make April-May the best time frame for this work, as it is after the worst winter weather and prior to the typhoon season. |
