Summary of Field Work: |
Integrated international multi-disciplinary field program to study uncertainty of oceanographic processes, seabed characterization, and low-frequency acoustic propagation over the outer shelf and upper slope of the East China Sea northeast of Taiwan. Program will include close collaboration with Taiwanese scientists |
Summary of Facility Requirements: |
We will be based out of Keelung, Taiwan. We will be working with National Taiwan University, National Taiwan Ocean University, and National Central University to work out logistics and harbor needs. |
Summary of other requirements and comments: |
Program will also include long-term drifter studies, glider deployments, as well as fine-scale hydrographic surveys using towed vehicles (SeaSoar) and EM-APEX floats. Acoustic studies will include deployment of horizontal and vertical line arrays for receivers as well as mobile acoustic sources and towed sources. Moorings will also be deployed including thermistor chains and bottom-mounted ADCPs. |

Explain Instrumentation or Capability requirements that could affect choice of ship in scheduling. |
We will be out in the typhoon season in an area with a lot of fishing activity. We will be deploying horizontal and vertical line arrays for receivers for acoustic propagation along with thermistor chains. We will deploy EM-APEX floats and recover gliders. We will also deploy near-surface drifters and restrained moorings.
