Ship Request

STR Management has moved to MFP

The US Academic Research Fleet is moving to Marine Facilities Planning (MFP) for scheduling initially and eventually cruise planning.

For all NEW or RESUBMITTED Projects/Ship Time Requests, go to https://mfp.us and create a new SME. Some STRs for projects starting in 2022 and beyond have already been moved to Marine Facilities Planning (mfp.us). Check your MFP Science Portal for any projects that might already be moved. If you need to make edits to projects that begin in 2022 and beyond, please contact mfp@unols.org for assistance. Be sure to indicate the Project and STR IDs that you would like to edit. For more information on getting into MFP, see the More Information button below.

Repeating Cruise?
(within same year)

Description of Repeating cruise requirements:
Justification/Explanation for ship choice, dates,
conflicts, number of days & multi-ship operations:
Seward Johnson or large vessel required as volume of mooring equipment cannot be supported by smaller vessels (i.e. Endeavor/Oceanus class are too small). Also Seward Johnson is capable of doing 50-60 full-ocean-depth CTD casts (i.e. to 6000 m) and it has a climate-controlled van for salinity/Autosal processing.

Latest start date limitation is due to conflict with later cruise for one participant group.
Work Area for Cruise
Short Description of Op Area
for use in schedules:
East of Bahamas
Description of Op Area: East of Abaco Island, Bahamas along 26.5degN out to 69.5degW and additional stations within Northwest Providence Channel and within Straits of Florida along 26N and 27N.

Foreign Clearance and Permitting Requirements
Foreign Clearance Required? Yes Coastal States:

Bahamas
Important Info on Foreign Research Clearances

Are you or any member in your science party bringing in any science equipment items which are regulated for export by the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and/or the Export Administration Regulations (EAR)?
No If yes, have you applied for the necessary permits through your export control office? No
 Questions about ITAR/EAR regulations?

Comments about foreign clearance requirements or
description of any other special permitting requirements
(e.g., MMPA, ESA, IHA, Marine Sanctuaries, etc.)

Explanation/justification for requested
ports and dates of intermediate stops
or to list additional port stops
Fort Pierce, home port for the Seward Johnson, is quite close to the working area. If different ship is used, any port near Florida east coast would be acceptable - Miami would be preferred.

No science party vans planned, however if Seward Johnson is the vessel provided, we would want them to bring their climate-controlled van with Autosals for salinity processing.
