Summary of Field Work: |
The cruise will consist of two legs. The first leg will involve box coring in shallow waters (60 m) of the Palos Verdes Shelf. The box cores will be subcored and the subcores will be transported to either a laboratory in Los Angeles Harbor or back to San Diego, depending on its purpose. The second leg will involve box coring in the deep basins (San Pedro, Santa Monica) off Los Angeles and along the Santa Crus-Catalina Ridge and possibly in San Diego Trough. These box cores will also be subcored and the subcores will be transported back to San Diego and distributed to laboratories that will conduct geochemical and sedimentological analyses. |
Summary of Facility Requirements: |
Currently, we anticipate needing a refrigerated van. Other requirements will be submitted as cruise planning progresses. |

Justification/Explanation for ship choice, dates,
conflicts, number of days & multi-ship operations: |
We are requesting the R/V Sproul because we conducted a cruise in March 2009 on this vessel and found that it was suitable for our box coring and core processing. |
