Ship Request

STR Management has moved to MFP

The US Academic Research Fleet is moving to Marine Facilities Planning (MFP) for scheduling initially and eventually cruise planning.

For all NEW or RESUBMITTED Projects/Ship Time Requests, go to and create a new SME. Some STRs for projects starting in 2022 and beyond have already been moved to Marine Facilities Planning ( Check your MFP Science Portal for any projects that might already be moved. If you need to make edits to projects that begin in 2022 and beyond, please contact for assistance. Be sure to indicate the Project and STR IDs that you would like to edit. For more information on getting into MFP, see the More Information button below.

Summary of Field Work: Cruises will take place in autumn of 2011, 2013 and 2015, timed to minimize the probability of encountering ice while remaining in the early autumn window for good weather.

Operations will include servicing an array of 9 subsurface moorings and 6 shelf sites across the Davis Strait, deployment and recovery of autonomous gliders and a hydrographic survey that spans the from the Northern Labrador Sea to Southern Baffin Bay.
Summary of Facility Requirements: We request a global-class vessel, preferably R/V Knorr, for 20 days in autumn 2011, 2013 and 2015.
Summary of other requirements and comments: Global class vessel requested for seakeeping abilities, as we typically must work through periods of bad weather.
