Summary of Field Work: |
The fieldwork consists of a mooring array deployed for one year, with a hydrographic/ADCP survey done during both the deployment and recovery cruises. |
Summary of Facility Requirements: |
The ship needs to be set up for mooring work and CTD work. It also needs to have a hull-mounted ADCP system. |
Summary of other requirements and comments: |
Much of the second cruise in summer 2012 will take place in the marginal ice zone east of Greenland. An icebreaker is strongly desired for this work. Our first choice is the James Clark Ross because of its expertise doing hydrography in these waters. The ship is presently available in summer 2012. Our second choice is the Healy. Our third choice is a large class vessel such as the Knorr (although this will limit our area of operations because it is not ice-strengthened). |

Explanation of Science Party Requirements and Technician Requirements |
We will bring 2 mooring technicians, 1 hydrographic technician, and 9 CTD watchstanders. There will likely be some atmospheric scientists aboard as well, and we anticipate ancillary chemical measurements by our international colleagues.
We will need 2 shipboard technicians. |
