Ship Request

STR Management has moved to MFP

The US Academic Research Fleet is moving to Marine Facilities Planning (MFP) for scheduling initially and eventually cruise planning.

For all NEW or RESUBMITTED Projects/Ship Time Requests, go to https://mfp.us and create a new SME. Some STRs for projects starting in 2022 and beyond have already been moved to Marine Facilities Planning (mfp.us). Check your MFP Science Portal for any projects that might already be moved. If you need to make edits to projects that begin in 2022 and beyond, please contact mfp@unols.org for assistance. Be sure to indicate the Project and STR IDs that you would like to edit. For more information on getting into MFP, see the More Information button below.

Project Title: STLVAST Full-Scale Drogue Test Project Status: Submitted
Principal Investigator: Christopher Bradner, NSWCCD Project Institution: NSWCCD
Project ID: 102748 Version #: 2
Date Submitted: 1/3/2011 1:24:00 PM Created By: Christopher Bradner

Funding Agencies: NAVY/ONR - NONE - Funded
Summary of Field Work: Support of full-scale testing of 12-m diameter parachute drogue test. Test will be conducted from USNS Washington Chambers (T-AKE 11). Support vessel will be required to assist with launch, recovery, and repacking of parachute drogue. Tasks will include transfer of lines at close distance while underway, reocvery of drogue, drogue bag, and approximately 900 ft of rode line, and repacking of drogue and rode line on back deck of support vessel.
Summary of Facility Requirements: Crane and/or winch with at least 2,000 lb safe working load rating; 30' x 40' of open space on back deck, abililty to safely operate while in close proximity to an 800' ft vessel; berthing for at least 6 personnel.
Summary of other requirements and comments: Testing is planned to take place off the coast of Southern California, but may required the vessel to follow the USNS Washington Chambers (T-AKE 11) on its transit to San Francisco. Duration of testing is scheduled to be 2 days, but may be extended to allow Washington Chambers to conduct engineering and casualty drills during the transit. Underway time of 3/28 to 4/02 accounts for transit back to San Diego upon completion of testing.
