Summary of Field Work: |
Prior to the arrival on the Pioneer Sea Mount, a line basket with floats, recovery line, and acoustic releases will have been attached to the instrument that is to be recovered. Once on site, the releases will be triggered and the recovery line will be brought through a user supplied block on the A-frame. The line and instrument will be hauled aboard by a user supplied winch. The dimensions of the three-sided pyramid instrument are roughly 13 feet on a side. The instrument weighs roughly 12,000 pounds in air. |
Summary of Facility Requirements: |
Large vessel working A-frame. Clear after deck space for winch and power pack. Dynamic positioning. Ship's crane to load and off-load winch and power pack. Instrument will be partially disassembled for demob so that the ship's crane can handle the weight. |

Justification/Explanation for ship choice, dates,
conflicts, number of days & multi-ship operations: |
Large UNOLS vessel required for A-frame capacity. Cannot begin before July because supporting recovery hardware will not be in place. Cannot start after September because of risk of bad weather. |
