Summary of Field Work: |
Carry out Second GEOTRACES Section from Peru to Tahiti in 2013. Water column measurements using ship CTD plus a PI-supplied rosette for metals and in situ pumping systems. At least 20-25 other investigators will participate on the cruise. Intensive sampling for trace elements and isotopes listed as core parameters in the GEOTRACES Science Plan will be carried out with full surface to seafloor stations approximately every 2.5 degrees. |
Summary of Facility Requirements: |
Ocean class vessel with large berthing capacity, lab space, and capacity to accommodate up to 7 science vans. ODF support for hydrography and nutrients is required. |

Justification/Explanation for ship choice, dates,
conflicts, number of days & multi-ship operations: |
Conflict - Moffett Chair of Chemical Oceanography Gordon Research Conference Aug 4-9 Ship Choice - Revelle based on berthing capacity, lab size, experience with major programs (e.g. CLIVAR) space for vans and operational track record. Thompson also acceptable if berthing capacity same as Revelle. |
