Summary of Field Work: |
The project's goal is to measure basin-width integrated fluxes of volume, heat, and freshwater fluxes in the North Atlantic Subpolar Gyre with an array of moorings spanning the Labrador, Irminger, and Iceland Basins. This cruise will service U.S. and Dutch moorings in the Iceland and Irminger Basins and perform localized boundary current surveys in the region. |
Summary of Facility Requirements: |
We plan to collect temperature, salinity, dissolved oxygen, and velocity (LADCP) profiles at approximately 30 stations We plan to service (deploy and recover) a total of 12 moorings in the Iceland and Irminger Basins. |

Description of Repeating cruise requirements: |
|
Justification/Explanation for ship choice, dates,
conflicts, number of days & multi-ship operations: |
The cruise requires a large ship (Knorr or equivalent), to hold all the required mooring gear. This cruise is one of a series of internationally-coordinated, annual project cruises that are targeted for the July-Aug time frame, to provide regular ~1 yr intervals between mooring servicing operations, and timed to occur during good working (weather) conditions. |
