Summary of Field Work: |
Demonstrate long range acoustic communications between a towed acoustic source and a towed hydrophone array at ranges up to ~1500-2000 km. |
Summary of Facility Requirements: |
Two ships are required. One ship will tow an acoustic sound source and the other ship will tow an acoustic horizontal receive array. |
Summary of other requirements and comments: |
Experiment will be done in the Philippine Sea in early 2013. The source ship with depart/return Kaohsiung, Taiwan. The towed array ship will depart Guam and arrive Okinawa, Japan.
The source is provided by NRL-SSC. They separately will submit a STR for additional ship days (beyond what is requested here) to use the source for their own geophysical experimental work in the vicinity of Taiwan. |
