Summary of Field Work: |
A series of surface transects and vertical stations within the central California Current upwelling system between Cape Mendocino and Point Conception and covering active coastal upwelling systems, the California Current transition zone and the offshore California Current. |
Summary of Facility Requirements: |
We will require the ship's CTD system with a rosette of standard sampling bottles. We will bring our own trace metal winch with Kevlar line for trace metal work. We will install our clean surface fish sampling system for the surface transects. We will also want access to the shps |

Optimum Start Date:

6/1/2014 |
Dates to Avoid: |
We want the cruise to be in May/June to catch the intense upwelling that occurs in the California Current system. If May or June is not available, then possibly July would be acceptable. |

Justification/Explanation for ship choice, dates,
conflicts, number of days & multi-ship operations: |
We need a large UNOLS research vessel. We have used the Thomas Thompson and it works very well for the types of operations that we will carry out. |

Explain Instrumentation or Capability requirements that could affect choice of ship in scheduling. |
We will need a boom to extend our surface clean fish sampling system away from the side of the ship. We have carried out this type of research on the RV Thompson in the summer of 20078 in the Gulf of Alaska.
