Ship Request

STR Management has moved to MFP

The US Academic Research Fleet is moving to Marine Facilities Planning (MFP) for scheduling initially and eventually cruise planning.

For all NEW or RESUBMITTED Projects/Ship Time Requests, go to https://mfp.us and create a new SME. Some STRs for projects starting in 2022 and beyond have already been moved to Marine Facilities Planning (mfp.us). Check your MFP Science Portal for any projects that might already be moved. If you need to make edits to projects that begin in 2022 and beyond, please contact mfp@unols.org for assistance. Be sure to indicate the Project and STR IDs that you would like to edit. For more information on getting into MFP, see the More Information button below.

Summary of Field Work: One cruise in each of 2013 and 2014 near Palau. Survey cruise in 2013 will use shipboard sonars and possibly LADCP/CTD time series to examine internal waves with the time series stations and geostrophic flow around an island by covering about some 100-200-km-long cross-shore sections around an island. Process cruise in 2014 will focus on LADCP/CTD time series near the steep slope in 50-1500 m water depths to examine effects of internal waves and island-trapped waves on flow through reef passages. Two to four short ADCP-only moorings will be deployed. Moorings will be recovered either from a non-UNOLS boat or on the cruise in 2014. SeaSoar will be used to examine eddy shedding in the lee of an island.
