Summary of Field Work: |
Western Boundary Time Series Summary: Characterize the strength of the western boundary currents in the subtropical North Atlantic to estimate the meridional overturning volume and heat transport.
This work includes a mix of mid- to large- vessel hydrographic cruises approximately every 18 months (approx 14 DAS), small vessels quarterly (approx 2 DAS each), and vessels less than 65 feet in length up to ten times per year (1 DAS each). |
Summary of Facility Requirements: |
Large, mid and small vessels require CTD hydrographic winch/capabilities, ship board ADCP, and deck space/small winch capable of up to 250 lb small mooring deployments. Ship should be capable to support scuba diving for shallow pressure gauges.
Vessels less than 65 feet have minimal requirements, but a radio direction finder is a big plus. |

Justification/Explanation for ship choice, dates,
conflicts, number of days & multi-ship operations: |
This cruise has been previously conducted on the Endeavor, Oceanus, Seaward Johnson, Knorr, Ronald H. Brown and Discoverer. Sea-state requirements include station keeping/CTD operations in 5-10 foot sea, 20 knot winds, and up to 2-3 knot currents as standard conditions. |
