Ship Request

STR Management has moved to MFP

The US Academic Research Fleet is moving to Marine Facilities Planning (MFP) for scheduling initially and eventually cruise planning.

For all NEW or RESUBMITTED Projects/Ship Time Requests, go to https://mfp.us and create a new SME. Some STRs for projects starting in 2022 and beyond have already been moved to Marine Facilities Planning (mfp.us). Check your MFP Science Portal for any projects that might already be moved. If you need to make edits to projects that begin in 2022 and beyond, please contact mfp@unols.org for assistance. Be sure to indicate the Project and STR IDs that you would like to edit. For more information on getting into MFP, see the More Information button below.

Project Title: Eddy vs. Internal Waves: a Story Untold Project Status: Submitted
Principal Investigator: Caitlin Whalen, APL-UW Project Institution: SIO
Project ID: 103874 Version #: 1
Date Submitted: 4/8/2013 6:01:00 PM Created By: Caitlin Whalen

Funding Agencies: INST/UCSD/SIO - NONE - Funded
Summary of Field Work: This fieldwork will quantify the spatial distribution of the internal wave field and mixing inside and nearby an eddy in the western subtropical pacific. This will be done by: (1) surveying a chosen eddy in a butterfly pattern using the HDSS sonar. (2) Conducting two 48 hr CTD 'yo-yo' stations while moving the ship very slowly along with the eddy. One station will be at the center and one will be in exterior of the eddy. (2) Transect across the eddy, doing periodic CTD casts.
Summary of Facility Requirements: We will require 24 hr CTD operations for a portion of the field work, and therefore we will need 24 hr winch and technician assistance. We will also be using the HDSS sonar.
