Summary of Field Work: |
We will collect 250-liter samples at nine stations along the salinity gradient (0-30) of the Satilla River and a similar set of samples on the Altamaha River. Samples will be concentrated by reverse osmosis and partially desalted by electrodialysis during the cruise. Follow-up work to further desalt the samples will be conducted at SKIO. |
Summary of Facility Requirements: |
Wet lab, refrigerator for small grab samples |
Summary of other requirements and comments: |
Proposal was funded without a request for ship time. Changing situation led to this request, which is pre-approved by Rose Dufour and Don Rice.
Cruise will be 5 days in the time window of March 6-12, 2014 on the R/V Savannah. |

Justification/Explanation for ship choice, dates,
conflicts, number of days & multi-ship operations: |
In our NSF project, we planned to sample using a small craft (R/V Explorer), but that work was much harder than anticipated in 2013. Michael Richter at SKIO advised us to request use of the R/V Savannah this year to greatly simplify the logistics of our field work at SKIO. This has been discussed with Don Rice and Rose Dufour, and Rose Dufour has pre-approved five days of use of the Savannah. |
