Summary of Field Work: |
We investigate the accuracy of a standard multibeam sonar when used to measure seafloor displacements. Our field work would consist of collecting multibeam data along a ~15 km ship track at a ship speed of 4-6 knots, and then repeating this ship track twice at the same speed and in the same direction. One repeated track would be in the same location as the initial track, the other would be offset by approximately 500 m in the across-track direction. |
Summary of Facility Requirements: |
Our experiment requires a vessel with a multibeam sonar capable of collecting data in regions with an average depth of 2.5-4 km. |
