Summary of Field Work: |
Project will conduct operations and maintenance (O&M) activities on the ALOHA Cabled Observatory (ACO). This is the second O&M grant.
Year 1 - 2016: At Station ALOHA and the ACO, Deploy Basic Sensor Package 2 (BSP2) and Secondary Node 1 (SN1). Recover LIGHT1. Perform other service as required.
The cruise may be extended if other funded projects are ready to deploy.
This cruise/activity will repeat on an annual basis, with details changing.
Year 2: 2017 O&M
Year 3: 2018 O&M
Year 4: 2019 O&M
Year 5: 2020 O&M |
Summary of Facility Requirements: |
Class-A ship (Kilo-Moana, Thompson or larger), ROV to work at 4720 m. Deck space for ROV vans and deck equipment. Room for science party of at least 22. |
Summary of other requirements and comments: |
We expect the UH ROV Lu'ukai to be on-line by the time these cruises take place. If not, ROV Jason will be backup, subject to coordination and consultation with NSF.
We are amenable to sharing ship time with other parties, especially those with ACO work. |

Description of Repeating cruise requirements: |
|
Justification/Explanation for ship choice, dates,
conflicts, number of days & multi-ship operations: |
May - June have the best combination of weather and seas for this area, increasing probability of success.
We are amenable working with other investigators (within limits of personnel time) |
