Ship Request

STR Management has moved to MFP

The US Academic Research Fleet is moving to Marine Facilities Planning (MFP) for scheduling initially and eventually cruise planning.

For all NEW or RESUBMITTED Projects/Ship Time Requests, go to https://mfp.us and create a new SME. Some STRs for projects starting in 2022 and beyond have already been moved to Marine Facilities Planning (mfp.us). Check your MFP Science Portal for any projects that might already be moved. If you need to make edits to projects that begin in 2022 and beyond, please contact mfp@unols.org for assistance. Be sure to indicate the Project and STR IDs that you would like to edit. For more information on getting into MFP, see the More Information button below.

  Project Information
Project Title: Undersea Warfare Training Range JAX OPAREA Trunk Cable Corridor Re-Survey Rev D Project Status: Submitted
Principal Investigator: Chris W. Freeman, geodynamicsgroup Project Institution: geodynamicsgroup
Project ID: 104873 Version #: 1
Date Submitted: 5/19/2015 11:21:00 AM Created By: Chris W. Freeman
Date Last Modified: 5/19/2015 11:21:00 AM URI Serial #: None
Funding Agencies: NAVY/NUWC - 21311010D - Funded
Summary of Field Work: To acquire approximately 750 line kilometers of multibeam bathymetry, sidescan sonar, CHIRP sub-bottom and magnetometer data to characterize the seafloor of the proposed trunk cable corridor for the USWTR offshore of Jacksonville FL. Data will be used to verify the optimal route for the cable.
Summary of Facility Requirements: We will need one vessel supplied ET and MET data following the cruise.
Summary of other requirements and comments: We will need installation of hydro winch and possible fabrication for USBL mounting. The marine ops manager has this information as well.

Requested Ship, Operating Days and Dates
Year: 2015 Ship/Facility: Savannah
Optimum Start Date: 10/26/2015 Dates to Avoid: We have a dead stop date of Nov 15 due to Navy req on whale interactions. We need 3 days of mob, 7 days of ops w/ transits, 1 day demob and we have 2 weather days scheduled for a total of 13 days. In the event we run into an issue and the Navy will extend funding we would like to have as much time before Nov 15 as possible

Foreign Clearance and Permitting Requirements
Foreign Clearance Required? No Coastal States:
Important Info on Foreign Research Clearances

Are you or any member in your science party bringing in any science equipment items which are regulated for export by the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and/or the Export Administration Regulations (EAR)?
No If yes, have you applied for the necessary permits through your export control office? No
 Questions about ITAR/EAR regulations?

Comments about foreign clearance requirements or
description of any other special permitting requirements
(e.g., MMPA, ESA, IHA, Marine Sanctuaries, etc.)

ports and dates of intermediate stops
or to list additional port stops
There should be no call to port unless necessary for weather stand down. It would be helpful for the ship to line up an emergency staging area inside the inlet at Mayport.
