Summary of Field Work: |
To test several candidate synthetic tension members in a coring application. |
Summary of Facility Requirements: |
Coring operations will be conducted by the OSU Coring group as a way to test several synthetic tension members. The 9/16" trawl wire will need to be removed from the trawl winch and a synthetic rope wound onto the winch. The synthetic rope will be used instead of the wire rope to conduct the coring operations. Winch tension data for max load at pull out will need to be monitored. We also will need to evaluate the traction winch sheaves and fairlead blocks to make sure they are compatible with synthetic rope use. Cleaning and smoothing of the sheave grooves may be necessary. If level wind speed can be increased to increase the angle of each fleet relative to the adjacent fleets it may decrease the tendency of the rope to knife in. |
