Ship Request

STR Management has moved to MFP

The US Academic Research Fleet is moving to Marine Facilities Planning (MFP) for scheduling initially and eventually cruise planning.

For all NEW or RESUBMITTED Projects/Ship Time Requests, go to and create a new SME. Some STRs for projects starting in 2022 and beyond have already been moved to Marine Facilities Planning ( Check your MFP Science Portal for any projects that might already be moved. If you need to make edits to projects that begin in 2022 and beyond, please contact for assistance. Be sure to indicate the Project and STR IDs that you would like to edit. For more information on getting into MFP, see the More Information button below.

Summary of Field Work: MOCNESS sampling in vicinity of Zooglider, near the San Diego Trough. EK80 acoustic survey. CTD casts. Surface water pumping. Live zooplankton collections and shipboard incubations.
Summary of Facility Requirements: 1-m2, 202-µm MOCNESS, with CTD, fluorometer, dissolved O2, transmissometer.
Calibrated EK80.
CTD-rosette w/ CTD, fluorometer, dissolved O2, transmissometer.
Hydrowire for bongo net.
(Science party will supply bongo nets and frame, weight, diaphram pump.)
Summary of other requirements and comments: Continuous shipboard communication with shore-based website required to track zooglider in real time. Zooglider will be launched and recovered independently, from SIO.
