Ship Request

STR Management has moved to MFP

The US Academic Research Fleet is moving to Marine Facilities Planning (MFP) for scheduling initially and eventually cruise planning.

For all NEW or RESUBMITTED Projects/Ship Time Requests, go to https://mfp.us and create a new SME. Some STRs for projects starting in 2022 and beyond have already been moved to Marine Facilities Planning (mfp.us). Check your MFP Science Portal for any projects that might already be moved. If you need to make edits to projects that begin in 2022 and beyond, please contact mfp@unols.org for assistance. Be sure to indicate the Project and STR IDs that you would like to edit. For more information on getting into MFP, see the More Information button below.

Summary of Field Work: Summary of Field Work: Characterization of the upwelling on the Chukchi shelf-basin region using acoustical oceanographic techniques. The research requires a year long deployment of sensor arrays to measure the oceanography and the propagation of sound through the changing ocean, the upper boundary, and the seafloor properties.

During the first year of the project more than twenty moorings were deployed on the shelf basin location to measure sound propagation from the deep basin to shallow water. The oceanography of the shelf basin region is also measured continuously for this period. During the proposed dates in 2017, we are planning to recover the deployed instrumentation and to measure the bathymetry of the seafloor, as well as taking core samples of selected positions.
Summary of Facility Requirements: Bathymetry of the experiment location between sound sources and the receiver arrays. Taking sediment cores of selected points, and recovery of all the instrumentation arrays. We will also take several CTD profiles during the cruise.
