Description of Repeating cruise requirements: |
The goal is to measure storms, so summer months are not feasible. This is not a repeating cruise. |
Justification/Explanation for ship choice, dates,
conflicts, number of days & multi-ship operations: |
A global class vessel is requested to maximize the sea state in which science can be conducted. Smaller vessels are not preferred, because they may be forced to avoid peak storm conditions or cease deck work during storms. The T.G. Thompson is chosen for ease and simplicity of local mobilization, and for proximity of home port to Station Papa (the work area). |
