Summary of Field Work: |
Occupation of Station ALOHA (22.75N, 158W) for 4 days over 10 months each year of the project. Operations include full ocean depth CTD profiling, deploying of surface tethered drifting arrays, 0-200 m net tows, and shipboard deployments of upper ocean optical instruments. |
Summary of Facility Requirements: |
Vessel capable of berthing up to 28 scientists/students/educators. Deep sea winch, mooring winch, capstan, MET-tower, seawater intake system |
Summary of other requirements and comments: |
HOT is a near-monthly time-series and requires cruises spaced evenly throughout the year. |

Repeating Cruise?
(within same year) |
Yes |

near-monthly 5-day cruises |
# of Cruises: |

|
Description of Repeating cruise requirements: |
Near-monthly cruises (evenly spaced throughout the year), 5 days in duration, 4 cruises total for the partial year (Aug-Dec 2018). |
Justification/Explanation for ship choice, dates,
conflicts, number of days & multi-ship operations: |
The HOT program has conducted approximately monthly shipboard sampling at our study site (Station ALOHA, 22.75N, 158W) since 1988. The current request includes 50 days of ship time per year to maintain this time-series. The Kilo Moana is well suited for HOT program sampling, including suitable berthing (we generally bring >20 scientists) and science equipment for our research. |

|
Explain Instrumentation or Capability requirements that could affect choice of ship in scheduling. |
HOT utilizes 14C and 3H radioisotopes (the program supplies radiation-approved working laboratory vans). In addition, we require a single supply van that houses spare parts for the CTD rosette and associated electronics.
