Summary of Field Work: |
The objective is to recover University of Washington ARGO float 7066 which is currently located at 61.292W, 32.536N (205nm east of St Georges, Bermuda). The plan is to depart on the morning of January 5, 2018 and arrive at the float's location in the early morning of January 6, 2018. The float will transmit its GPS location at 15min intervals. After the float is visually located, then recovery is accomplished by dropping a loop of rope over the float and lift it out of the water. The float weighs only 65 pounds so manual recovery is relatively easy. Once the float is recovered, then transit directly back to St Georges on the morning of January 7, 2018.
If feasible, we would like to have one person from UW lab participate in the recovery. However, weather will be the determining factor for successful recover and so if weather dictates departure without UW personel, then this is acceptable. |
