Summary of Field Work: |
Experiments and measurements of colonization and larval supply at vents on the East Pacific rise at sites near 9N50', 9N47' and 9N30'. Activities include deployment and recovery of colonization surfaces and larval tube traps, sampling with a high-volume pump, and photo mosaicking of seafloor communities. |
Summary of Facility Requirements: |
Operations require a human-occupied vehicle (e.g., Alvin) or a large-capacity ROV (e.g., Jason), and an elevator for sample collection. |
Summary of other requirements and comments: |
Shipboard requirements include walk-in cooler space, laboratory bench space, running seawater, access to a -80C freezer, and storage space for samples during transit to port. |
