Ship Request

STR Management has moved to MFP

The US Academic Research Fleet is moving to Marine Facilities Planning (MFP) for scheduling initially and eventually cruise planning.

For all NEW or RESUBMITTED Projects/Ship Time Requests, go to https://mfp.us and create a new SME. Some STRs for projects starting in 2022 and beyond have already been moved to Marine Facilities Planning (mfp.us). Check your MFP Science Portal for any projects that might already be moved. If you need to make edits to projects that begin in 2022 and beyond, please contact mfp@unols.org for assistance. Be sure to indicate the Project and STR IDs that you would like to edit. For more information on getting into MFP, see the More Information button below.

  Cascadia CORK Repair  -  2019  -  Atlantis
  Project Information
Project Title: Determining the Locking State of the Updip end of the Cascadia Megathrust using Real Time Seafloor Geodetic data Project Status: Submitted
Principal Investigator: Jeffrey J. McGuire, WHOI Project Institution: WHOI
Project ID: 106270 Version #: 1
Date Submitted: 8/16/2018 1:46:00 PM Created By: Jeffrey J. McGuire
Date Last Modified: 8/16/2018 1:46:00 PM URI Serial #: None
Funding Agencies: NSF/OCE/MGG - 1825861 - Funded
Summary of Field Work: We will recover, repair, and reinstall a instrument string in the CORK observatory at IODP hole U1364A which is offshore Vancouver Island at the Clayoquoit slope node of the Ocean Networks Canada Observatory. The instrument string is 300 m long and will require an ROV to attach the ships wire to.
Summary of Facility Requirements: Ocean or Global class with ROV Jason or ROV with similar capabilities.
Ship will need DP and USBL capabilities.
We will need to install a winch with a split drum from the winch pool.
Depending on the ship we may also need to install a small platform on the fan tail similar to what the Sikuliaq uses for mooring deployments.
