Summary of Field Work: |
Characterization of microbiology and geochemistry of sinking particles in low oxygen waters in the Santa Barbara Channel and a training cruise for UCSB undergraduates on low-oxygen biogeochemistry.
This work will consist of a single cruise to be conducted in vicinity of the Santa Barbara Channel and Point Conception. Work will involve hydrographic sampling, deployment of drifting sediment trap arrays, and sediment coring. The will ideally be scheduled to coincide with the end of the quarterly fall CalCOFI survey 16-22 Nov 2019. |
Summary of Facility Requirements: |
We need a CTD rosette with redundant/backup O2 sensors, aft winch/A-frame, deck space for a flowing seawater incubator, and the multi-corer. In the laboratory, we require use of the -20 and -80 freezers and MilliQ system. |
