Ship Request

STR Management has moved to MFP

The US Academic Research Fleet is moving to Marine Facilities Planning (MFP) for scheduling initially and eventually cruise planning.

For all NEW or RESUBMITTED Projects/Ship Time Requests, go to https://mfp.us and create a new SME. Some STRs for projects starting in 2022 and beyond have already been moved to Marine Facilities Planning (mfp.us). Check your MFP Science Portal for any projects that might already be moved. If you need to make edits to projects that begin in 2022 and beyond, please contact mfp@unols.org for assistance. Be sure to indicate the Project and STR IDs that you would like to edit. For more information on getting into MFP, see the More Information button below.

Summary of Field Work: Characterization of microbiology and geochemistry of sinking particles in low oxygen waters in the Santa Barbara Channel and a training cruise for UCSB undergraduates on low-oxygen biogeochemistry.

This work will consist of a single cruise to be conducted in vicinity of the Santa Barbara Channel and Point Conception. Work will involve hydrographic sampling, deployment of drifting sediment trap arrays, and sediment coring. The will ideally be scheduled to coincide with the end of the quarterly fall CalCOFI survey 16-22 Nov 2019.
Summary of Facility Requirements: We need a CTD rosette with redundant/backup O2 sensors, aft winch/A-frame, deck space for a flowing seawater incubator, and the multi-corer. In the laboratory, we require use of the -20 and -80 freezers and MilliQ system.
