Ship Request

STR Management has moved to MFP

The US Academic Research Fleet is moving to Marine Facilities Planning (MFP) for scheduling initially and eventually cruise planning.

For all NEW or RESUBMITTED Projects/Ship Time Requests, go to and create a new SME. Some STRs for projects starting in 2022 and beyond have already been moved to Marine Facilities Planning ( Check your MFP Science Portal for any projects that might already be moved. If you need to make edits to projects that begin in 2022 and beyond, please contact for assistance. Be sure to indicate the Project and STR IDs that you would like to edit. For more information on getting into MFP, see the More Information button below.

  Project Information
Project Title: Sonar Monitoring of Natural Release of Methane Greenhouse Gas from the Seafloor-A Contribution to the Understanding of Global Change Project Status: Submitted
Principal Investigator: Deborah S. Kelley, UW Project Institution: UW
Project ID: 106440 Version #: 1
Date Submitted: 2/21/2019 2:20:00 PM Created By: Deborah S. Kelley
Date Last Modified: 2/21/2019 2:20:00 PM URI Serial #: None
Funding Agencies: OTHER - A127457 - Funded
Summary of Field Work: It is anticipated that two MARUM multibeam sonars, a 4K camera and a CTD currently installed at Southern Hydrate Ridge on the OOI Regional Cabled Observatory (RCA) will be recovered. However, if the award is extended the instruments may be turned.
Summary of Facility Requirements: This effort requires 1 day of field work added onto the 2020 RCA annual field program using the ROV.
Summary of other requirements and comments: MARUM has indicated that there is funding in place for 2020 (a modification to the contract is in progress). If the program is not extended past 2020, then the requirement will be to recover the instruments in 2020 before the award ends per NSF guidance.

Foreign Clearance and Permitting Requirements
Foreign Clearance Required? No Coastal States:
Important Info on Foreign Research Clearances

Are you or any member in your science party bringing in any science equipment items which are regulated for export by the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and/or the Export Administration Regulations (EAR)?
No If yes, have you applied for the necessary permits through your export control office? No
 Questions about ITAR/EAR regulations?
