Summary of Field Work: |
In year 1, deploy seafloor geodetic transponders and benchmarks for the sea surface using dynamically position ship at two sites along the Cascadia subduction zone. In year 3, recover the transponders from the two seafllor sites. |
Summary of Facility Requirements: |
In year 1, require a dynamically-positioned ship with a crane. In year 3, require a ship with a crane. |

Explanation of Science Party Requirements and Technician Requirements |
Requesting ROV Jason dive to place three acoustic transponders on three existing permanent concrete benchmark already deployed on the seafloor at the site. Benchmarks are appoximately 1 nm apart. Science party will handle transponder preparation, but assume restech and ROV operators will be available to support handover of transponder to Jason. |

Explain Instrumentation or Capability requirements that could affect choice of ship in scheduling. |
Need dynamic positioning to maintain ship overtop of the target sites on the seafloor to allow ROV Jason to place transponder precisely on ~ 1 meter diameter benchmark.
|
|
|
Explain Major Ancillary Facilities Requirements and list description and provider for "other" systems. |
Require ROV Jason to precisely place three acoustic transponders into the registration frame of three permanment concrete benchmark deployed at the dive site. Bechmarks are ~ 1 nm apart and in ~ 1100 m deep waters. Each of the three transponder is ~ 0.5 meters in diameter and presumably carried down in Jason's sample basket. Jason completed similar work in 2014 at four sites offshore Newport for our group. |
