Summary of Field Work: |
To sample polar cod, ice-associated fauna, sea-ice habitat properties and hydroacoustics profiles of zooplankton and fish in the western Beaufort Sea during October / November 2019, when sea-ice formation and potential entrainment of juvenile polar cod are in progress. We will sample across the marginal ice zone, where sea-ice formation is taking place. The target area will therefore be flexibly adapted to the position of the ice edge during sampling, and the general progress of freeze-up. Sampling during late October to early November is expected to occur over deep water offshore of the narrow Beaufort Sea shelf, but may be displaced westward if freeze-up occurs early. |
