Summary of Field Work: |
The field work involves performing an experiment of approximately 17 days to 1) test methods to extract information from measurements of the ocean ambient noise field, 2) test a probabilistic sonar prediction methodology. The experiments will include acoustic propagation measurements as well as relevant oceanographic measurements that will be used to assess the probabilistic sonar predictions. Glider systems with acoustic sensors will be deployed and ocean and seabed measurements will be simultaneously collected. |
Summary of Facility Requirements: |
We will need an A-frame to deploy a sound source, a crane to deploy and recover glider systems, a CTD measurement capability and sufficient deck space for glider deployments and for source amplifiers. |
Summary of other requirements and comments: |
Will need to be able to operate in moderately rough weather (e.g., sea-state 3). |

Justification/Explanation for ship choice, dates,
conflicts, number of days & multi-ship operations: |
Will likely operate 100nm or so from the coast, need to tow a source, deploy recover gliders and make CTD, sub-bottom profiling measurements. Need a mid-size or greater. |
