Ship Request

STR Management has moved to MFP

The US Academic Research Fleet is moving to Marine Facilities Planning (MFP) for scheduling initially and eventually cruise planning.

For all NEW or RESUBMITTED Projects/Ship Time Requests, go to and create a new SME. Some STRs for projects starting in 2022 and beyond have already been moved to Marine Facilities Planning ( Check your MFP Science Portal for any projects that might already be moved. If you need to make edits to projects that begin in 2022 and beyond, please contact for assistance. Be sure to indicate the Project and STR IDs that you would like to edit. For more information on getting into MFP, see the More Information button below.

Project Title: OOI Endurance Array OM Project Status: Submitted
Principal Investigator: Edward P. Dever, OSU-CEOAS Project Institution: OSU_COAS
Project ID: 106502 Version #: 2
Date Submitted: 5/23/2019 10:31:00 AM Created By: Edward P. Dever
Date Last Modified: 9/28/2020 2:43:00 PM URI Serial #: None
Funding Agencies: NSF-OOI/OOI - NONE - Funded
Summary of Field Work: Maintain long term moored array off the coast of Oregon and Washington
Summary of Facility Requirements: UNOLS global class ship for mooring work, prefer R/V Thompson due to close home porting etc.
Summary of other requirements and comments: crane (13,000 lbs), A-frame, 1200 sq ft main deck, 60,000 lb deck load, trawl winch, experience with mooring operations

Requested Ship, Operating Days and Dates
Year: 2020 Ship/Facility: Global
Optimum Start Date: 9/15/2020 Dates to Avoid: weather window for mooring operations closes in early October
Earliest Start Date: 9/1/2020 Multi-Ship Op: No
Latest Start Date: 10/1/2020 Other Ship(s): It looks like there is not an option for global/oceans. I listed a global ship request, but oceans would also work

Repeating Cruise?
(within same year)
No Interval:   # of Cruises:

Description of Repeating cruise requirements: timing is set by 6 month turn cycle for mooring components and weather window in which mooring operations can be accomplished
Justification/Explanation for ship choice, dates,
conflicts, number of days & multi-ship operations:
mooring gear is large enough that global or oceans class ship is required. Number of days is set by the number of mooring operations that must occur.

Foreign Clearance and Permitting Requirements
Foreign Clearance Required? No Coastal States:

Important Info on Foreign Research Clearances

Are you or any member in your science party bringing in any science equipment items which are regulated for export by the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and/or the Export Administration Regulations (EAR)?
No If yes, have you applied for the necessary permits through your export control office? No
 Questions about ITAR/EAR regulations?
