Summary of Field Work: |
Collecting and observing mesopelagic organisms and conducting carbon flux and microbial diversity measurements in the slope waters off southern New England as part of WHOI's Ocean Twilight Zone project. We will use several techniques for this work, including CTD/rosette casts, net tows, towed vehicle operations (Stingray / ISIIS), pumping water from depth, sediment trap arrays, and carbon flux drifters (Minions, TZEX). |
Summary of Facility Requirements: |
We will require CTD/rosette, winch with fiber optic cable, ADCP, EK80 (highly desired), and other standard sensors (flow through, met, etc.). The science party will provide all other equipment, including nets, tow sled, deep water pumps, laboratory equipment. |
