Summary of Field Work: |
We will use our depth-cycling towed body SWIMS and microstructure profilers (AMP & MMP) to study internal tides and mixing in Monterey Canyon. Observations will also be made with a bottom-mounted 300 kHz ADCP, 3 McLane Moored Profilers and 4 Long Ranger 75 kHz ADCPs. |
Summary of Facility Requirements: |
We need to install a 150 kHz ADCP and a Biosonics 120 kHz transducer in the ship's transducer wells. Also, on the fantail we will install a Dynacon winch for our SWIMS towbody and MMP winch for the profilers. All 8 moorings put in earlier will be recovered at the end of the cruise. |
Summary of other requirements and comments: |
The moorings for this project are to be put in 2 months prior to the end date of the this cruise on a separate 4-day cruise. |

Description of Repeating cruise requirements: |
|
Justification/Explanation for ship choice, dates,
conflicts, number of days & multi-ship operations: |
Moorings being used on the cruise will not be available in the summer of 2009 so we need to move the cruise to April 2009. We need a larger ship with the moorings and the increased winds in April. We have installed our equipment on the Wecoma in the past. An alternate ship is the Revelle. |
