Summary of Field Work: |
Other equipment: ICL loop (4" loop)from Alvin or Jason to interrogate equipment.
We are requesting 8 dives (either 8 Alvin dives, or ROV days, to be piggy-backed on Anna-Louise Reysenbach's already funded program, Distribution and diversity of thermoacidophiles from deep-sea vents, (adding 1 to the science party), specifically to have 4 dives added to her dive time at the Guaymas Basin, and 4 added to her program at EITHER the Rainbow Vent Field OR the Kilo Moana Vent Field on the Eastern Lau Spreading Center (whichever is best based on timing). The dives we are requesting need to be at timed intervals, with dive #1 deploying instruments, then two days later a second dive, 4 days after that a third dive, and 20 days later (which may require our having 1 dive on the leg AFTER Reysenbach, with 2 added to their science party), the fourth and last dive which would recover all equipment (two thermocouple arrays, dataloggers, and a MAVs current meter). Four days of transit time is requested in case there is a need to transit back to the instrumented site for the last pick-up if we are on someone else's leg. |
