Description of Repeating cruise requirements: |
Original ship time request for annual ship use toward OBS testing only for the OBSIP pool (an NSF facility) extended until CY 2008. Grant extends until March 2010. This request augments ship time through 2009 and the end of the current OBSIP award. |
Justification/Explanation for ship choice, dates,
conflicts, number of days & multi-ship operations: |
Optimum dates: Variable. OBSIP instrumentation construction and testing is an ongoing project. Flexibility in ship time is crucial, cruise dates are scheduled upon the completion of OBS instrument construction and also to coincide between scheduled OBSIP field programs. Ready access to the Marine Facility and port at SIO is optimal for efficient operations. The R/V Sproul is an ideal platform for multiple, short-term cruises toward instrument testing in local waters. |
