STR Management has moved to MFP

The US Academic Research Fleet is moving to Marine Facilities Planning (MFP) for scheduling initially and eventually cruise planning.

For all NEW or RESUBMITTED Projects/Ship Time Requests, go to https://mfp.us and create a new SME. Some STRs for projects starting in 2022 and beyond have already been moved to Marine Facilities Planning (mfp.us). Check your MFP Science Portal for any projects that might already be moved. Summary of Field Work: We are proposing to deploy 3 autonomous hydrophone moorings in the Equatorial Atlantic for two years. Assuming that Fortaleza, Brazil will be the port of departure and return, and a transit speed of 10 kt, the deployment cruise will take approximately 11.5-12 days. This time takes into account 8 hr at each site to collect multibeam bathymetry, find a suitably flat location on the seafloor, deploy the hydrophone,and survey it in. The retrieval cruise requires that we pick up 4 hydrophones and would take approximately 17 days if the ports were Barbados-Fortaleza, Brazil.
Summary of Facility Requirements: We will need a crane or A-frame and a mooring winch or capstan. We would also like a hull mounted transducer to interrogate the mooring releases if available.

We budget for 8 hrs/hydrophone deployment and 10.5 days of transit RT from Fortaleza, Brazil. We chose the Knorr because it is in the Atlantic and might be available in late 2011/early 2012.
