Summary of Field Work: |
We are proposing to deploy 3 autonomous hydrophone moorings in the Equatorial Atlantic for two years. Assuming that Fortaleza, Brazil will be the port of departure and return, and a transit speed of 10 kt, the deployment cruise will take approximately 11.5-12 days. This time takes into account 8 hr at each site to collect multibeam bathymetry, find a suitably flat location on the seafloor, deploy the hydrophone, and survey it in. The retrieval cruise requires that we pick up 4 hydrophones and would take approximately 17 days if the ports were Barbados-Fortaleza, Brazil. |
Summary of Facility Requirements: |
We will need a crane or A-frame and a mooring winch or capstan. We would also like a hull mounted transducer to interrogate the mooring releases if available. |

Justification/Explanation for ship choice, dates,
conflicts, number of days & multi-ship operations: |
We budget for 8 hrs/hydrophone deployment and 10.5 days of transit RT from Fortaleza, Brazil. We chose the Knorr because it is in the Atlantic and might be available in late 2011/early 2012. |
