Summary of Field Work: |
To collect water column samples in the continental margin off the coast of New England to measure methane concentration, oxidation rates, air-sea flux, and natural isotopes. These samples will also be used in incubation experiments. |
Summary of Facility Requirements: |
1) CTD-Rosette with large (20L) Niskin bottles that is trace metal clean 2) Multi- or box-corer 3) Radioisotope lab van |

Description of Repeating cruise requirements: |
|
Justification/Explanation for ship choice, dates,
conflicts, number of days & multi-ship operations: |
SCIENTIFICALLY: This time of year and the associated oceanographic parameters most closely match the those during conditions of active flow during the Deepwater Horizon disaster. LOGISTICALLY: The PIs and cruise participants have less scheduling conflicts during this time period because of negligible in-class teaching commitments. |

Explain Instrumentation or Capability requirements that could affect choice of ship in scheduling. |
Use tritium-labeled methane to measure the rates of methane oxidation. This operation requires use of a radioisotope lab van.
