Summary of Field Work: |
Test environmental sensing and motion forecast systems. Expected instrumentation: radars, wave buoys, inertial measurement units, recording of ship control system status, anemometers, data acquisition systems. |
Summary of Facility Requirements: |
Melville and a small craft (i.e., RHIB) that can be deployed and retrieved by the Melville during the cruise. The small craft will carry an ultrasonic wave measurement system. |

Justification/Explanation for ship choice, dates,
conflicts, number of days & multi-ship operations: |
This project is focused on predicting the R/V Melville's ship motion based on sensed data. It is critical that we use the R/V Melville as all preparatory work has focused on this ship. Requested schedule (September) is needed due to ONR program requirements. |

Explanation of Science Party Requirements and Technician Requirements |
There will be three primary groups of researchers, but all will be working on the same research topic.
This project requires the R/V Melville as a scale model and hydrodynamic models have already been built based upon this ship.
The program also requires the shipboard science x-band radar and associated GPS-IMU motion packs.
Science party requires access to vessel for familiarization and walk through dockside during scheduled port call no less than 6 weeks prior to sailing. Preferably at a CONUS location.
A port call is requested 2nd to last day (or crew transfer by small boat) to allow for sponsor demonstrations and VIPs to visit ship and review program. |

Will need a small craft (i.e., RHIB) that can be delployed and retrieved by Melville. Craft will carry remove wave measuring instrumentation. |
