Summary of Field Work: |
We wish to sample a tracer released at 1100 m depth near the Deepwater Horizon well rupture site. The tracer will be released in late June 2012 and will have spread over an area of order 100,000 square km by December 2012. Sampling will be by a towed array of samplers and by conventional CTD/Rosette. Analysis is by gas chromatography on board ship. |
Summary of Facility Requirements: |
CTD winch with wire led through A-frame on stern. Auxiliary winch to deploy bottom of the sampling array. Clean surface seawater. Met data. Ship ADCP. |
Summary of other requirements and comments: |
Above requirements for surface seawater and met data are anticipated for anciliary projects. |

Description of Repeating cruise requirements: |
|
Justification/Explanation for ship choice, dates,
conflicts, number of days & multi-ship operations: |
The cruise is timed to be 5 to 6 months after the tracer release, in late June 2012, because of the evolution of the streakiness of the tracer patch. |
|
Short Description of Op Area
for use in schedules: |
Gulf of Mexico |
Description of Op Area: |
Difficult to predict where the tracer will go; Most likely western Gulf of Mexico between the Mississippi delta and the TX/MX border. |

Cocodrie, LA, USA |
Explanation/justification for requested ports and dates of intermediate stops or to list additional port stops |
We may have to pull in to a port of opportunity to resupply. The choice of port depends on the location of the tracer patch. |
